Shepard Falling ~ PMZ Baton Beats
Last Rob looked at a 'Shepard Tone' which is an effect where it sounds like a tone is constantly rising. This week he wondered what it would be like to have a continuously falling sound. Inverting things in music is very common, J.S. Bach was well known for inverting, and reversing melodies, and then weaving them back in very beautiful ways.

Shepard Tone ~ PMZ Baton Beats
This week Rob has continued looking at music derived from shapes of notes, and by using a diagonal line that's repeated, and overlapping, we can create a 'Shepard Tone', which can sound like it's continuously rising.

DRUM Letters as MIDI ~ PMZ Baton Beats
This week, Baton Beats leader Rob Tilsley drew 'DRUM' in MIDI notes, and used a drum kit voice, so the word is what it says... a strange kind of onomatopoeia. We would love to hear your ideas for doing this with other instruments.

MUSIC Letters as MIDI ~ PMZ Baton Beats
This week Rob took the word 'Music' and created Midi notes based on the shapes of those letters. This was a suggestion from Ken, thank you very much Ken!

PMZ Letters as MIDI ~ PMZ Baton Beats
Continuing with the 'turning things into music that aren't music' theme, Rob has gone with letters this time, using their shapes as outlines for MIDI. This time using the letters P,M, and Z. We would love to hear your ideas of other words, or shapes, or anything that you think might be interesting!

Opera Drumkit ~ PMZ Baton Beats
Continuing the 'creating music out of information' theme, here Rob takes the previous transcription of the famous Opera House chess game, and translates it onto different drum kits. We hope you enjoy the results! Do let Rob know if you have any ideas of other information that we can turn into music.

Whose Pigs Be These?
Care for something a bit silly? It’s an old folksong arranged by Anna, including some new verses by PMZ participants.
Round Song: Whose Pigs Be These?
(Possibly from 1770 – from Merry Songs and Ballads prior to 1800 , Vol 3 Ed John Stephen Farmer)
Whose pigs be these? Whose pigs be these?
Oh they are John Potts’,
You can tell 'em by the spots
And I found them in the vicarage garden.
Whose pigs be these? Whose pigs be these?
It’s a Merrick sow and it’s bigger than a cow
And I found it in the vicarage garden.
Whose pigs be these? Whose pigs be these?
It belongs to a Beater,
It’s a keeper not an eater
And I found it in the vicarage garden.
Whose pigs be these? Whose pigs be these?
Well it looks like Pork, but it’s actually an Orc
And I found it in the vicarage garden.
(This new verse was by residents at The Rise, Plympton…a few years ago!)
Whose sheep be these? Whose sheep be these?
For they are Polly Hughes’
You can tell it by their shoes
And I found em in the vicarage garden.
(This new verse was by the Musical Misfits online June 2021)
Whose geese be these? Whose geese be these?
For they honk and they ponk
And they do the naughty stonk
And I found them in the vicarage garden
Whose pigs be these? Whose pigs be these?
Oh they are John Potts’,
You can them by the spots
And I found them in the vicarage garden.

Chess Opera Game ~ PMZ Baton Beats
This week Baton Beats music leader Rob Tilsley continues with last week's 'turning stuff that isn't music, into music' theme, using a famous chess game with the system created last week. Each 'turn' of the players (where they have played one move each) is a bar of music, and Rob used the 'Opera Game' played in 1858 between Paul Morphy and Duke Karl / Count Isouard.
